Path C: Drawing & Injecting the Reconstituted Peptide

After Reconstitution and careful Dosage Calculation, follow these steps to draw and inject your dose:

  1. Set up syringe and vial

    • Select a new, sterile U-100 insulin syringe sized for your dose (0.5 mL or 1 mL).
    • Scrub the rubber stopper of the reconstituted peptide vial with a fresh alcohol swab and let it air-dry.
  2. Draw slightly more than the calculated dose

    • Remove the needle cap without touching the needle.
    • Insert the needle through the centre of the stopper.
    • Invert vial and syringe together, then pull the plunger past your target line so the syringe holds a little extra solution.
  3. Remove bubbles and set the exact dose

    • Keep the vial inverted. Tap the syringe so air bubbles rise.
    • Slowly push the plunger until the top edge of the plunger tip rests exactly on your dose mark (for example, 50 Units).
  4. Withdraw the syringe

    • Pull the needle straight out of the stopper. Avoid touching the needle.
  5. Inject the dose

    • Pick a rotated site on the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm. Clean with a new alcohol swab and let it dry (see General Injection Safety Concepts).
    • Pinch skin gently if needed.
    • Insert the needle quickly at 90 degrees (45 degrees if you have very little subcutaneous fat).
    • Depress the plunger slowly until the barrel is empty.
    • Wait 5–10 seconds, then withdraw the needle straight out.
    • Apply light pressure with gauze if needed. Do not rub.
  6. Dispose of sharps

    • Drop the entire syringe and needle into an approved sharps container right away (see Safe Disposal Guide).
    • Do not recap.
